1969 Volkswagen Type 1 Karmann Convertible
Another type of project we enjoy working on from time to time are VW restorations. This is a 1969 VW Convertible from Florida. The owner has had this car for several years with the intention of restoring it himself. It has already been completely disassembled by the owner. During a trip to Florida, a deal was made to transport this car back up to our shop and manage the complete restoration for him.
Prior to him purchasing this car, it was in a nasty accident that most likely would have totaled it. The main impact was to the right front corner and the damage extends all the way up to the dash. In addition, the salty Florida air has not been good to the usual areas of this car so a fair amount of rust repair is needed also. In general though, this car is in excellent shape for it's 36 years.
We will handle the rust repair, new pans and collision damage repair before sending it to the body shop for the remaining bodywork and a new coat of paint. We will complete the reassembly when it returns.
We begin by completing a photo documentation of all four corners and sides of the vehicle inside and out.
