Class A motorhome diesel engine Diesel engine coaches tend to be among the largest and heaviest of the motorhomes on the road. Some have 2 axles and some have an additional tag axle.Some of these unit can reach weights in excess of 60,000lbs. Most have been rear engine, but now with the advent of FRED and Sprinter and Spartans Mid-Engine, the engine may be in several locations.

"FRED" stands for Front End Diesel and usually has a smaller Cummins engine in the front with steel spring syle suspension. These are often lower cost to purchase and should catch on quickly as they offer good power with very good fuel economy. Freightliner also make a smaller "Sprinter" chassis with a 5 cylinder Mercedes diesel that is outstanding for 2 people and can deliver up to 20 MPG

Spartan's Mid Engine offers someting new in the air ride diesel RV market. Better weight balance from front to rear and the option allows for a garage configuration option in the rear. This also allows for a lower floor option in the rear and more room in the bedroom area.
